Senior - Samantha

Well the first Senior shoot of the season has come and gone...actually it was two shoots due to the weather. However, this played into Samantha's favor. We had a good studio and location shoot resulting in some very nice pictures. Last Saturday was hot and muggy, but our location shoot turned out great...she was a real trooper!

Check out the shots below!

ASU Red Wolves Media Day 2009

Every year, colleges have a media day for their football team. On this day, the team gets a group photo for the archives, head shots for ESPN and other media outlets and, at ASU, they get another photo taken that they can purchase. My boss, Bob Harris, has taken the latter pictures for several years. This year, he asked me to come along and shoot. I decided to up the game a bit and use off camera lighting instead of just the ambient sun. I think it paid off...let me know what you think of the samples!

And one for kicks and giggles...

Zack Arias - OneLight Workshop DVD

Back in April, I finally purchased the OneLight Workshop DVD by Zack Arias (www.zarias.com). If you are looking for simple to understand, yet detailed instruction on off-camera lighting, Zack is your man. An Atlanta music and portrait photographer, Zack makes compelling images that have such a polished look, while only using one light. As most instructional tools go, the DVD does have a price tag. However, I find myself going back to it again and again to refresh myself on certain concepts. So, check out Zack Arias at his blog www.zarias.com and then head over to the OneLight Workshop website @ www.OneLightWorkshop.com.

HDR Panoramic - 21 Pictures in 1

Of the many pictures of Scotland that I have, one of my favorites is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) Panoramic of the City of Inverness. Inverness is one of those places that I will always have a place for in my heart. Because of that, I wanted to show this wonderful city the way I saw it - majestic, beautiful and serene.

Now, just a single shot of this wouldn't suffice - it wouldn't showcase the beautiful tones in the clouds, buildings, water and trees. I needed a pano to capture the width as well. So, I decided to challenge myself with making an HDR Panorama.

An HDR requires at least 3 pictures of different exposures - one under, on , and above the proper exposure. This allows one to view all of the tones within the scene. Now, in order to do that panorama, I had to take 7 separate panels. So, with my limited math skills that comes up to 21 pictures all together. Most people would say this would definitely require a tripod...however, this was a spur of the moment decision, and I didn't have my tripod with me.

Yes, this is all handheld...I thought it was impossible too, but I was blessed to have a steady hand at this moment in time.

If you are interested in learning more about HDR visit http://www.kelbytraining.com or even leave a comment and I will be glad to give you tips and point you in the right direction.
